Pot plants were used for table decorations and one excellent idea appears to have been a shelf below the table top, with an aperture in the table itself above, through which the plants only appear, the pots being hidden below; an idea which could be copied today particularly for a loggia or garden table. A few of the meanings of the flowers were; cyclamen-riches, arun-ardour, bluebell-constancy, honeysuckle-affection, myrtle-love, lobelia-malevolence, pansy-thoughts, peony-shame, and some of the Bouquets of Meanings were quite poetical; geranium, gillyflower, heliotrope and Virginia creeper-I offer true friendship, affection, devotion. Monkshood, mountain ash and blue violet-Danger is near. Be prudent being faithful and so on.!
